Membership in SALUTE signifies your service, academic excellence, and a commitment to high principles and superior achievement throughout your lifetime. Your SALUTE designation will set you apart from the crowd.

SALUTE stands for Service, Academics, Leadership, Unity, Tribute, and Excellence. They are the core values of our honor society and the foundation of your success.

BENEFITS: 

• Lifetime membership with SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society
• Certificate and military-style challenge coin commemorating membership in SALUTE and specific level of academic achievement
• Ability to compete for scholarships
• Enhance your resume with formal academic acknowledgement and engage in local leadership positions
• Opportunities to network, as well as receive and give assistance to fellow student veteran members
• Wear SALUTE Honor’s regalia to demonstrate academic achievements as a veteran status at graduation
• Participate in local and National SALUTE programs
• Attend and invite your friends and families to the SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society Induction and graduation ceremonies (the ceremonies only take place in the Fall and Spring semester)

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

Undergraduate Students:

• Degree-seeking student
• Must have completed at least 12 credit hours
• Minimum 3.0 GPA

Graduate Students: (master’s and doctoral degrees)

• Degree-seeking student
• Must have competed at least 9 credit hours
• Minimum 3.5 GPA

MEMBERSHIPS:

Salute Individual Membership:

• Offered to active duty, reserve, guard and veterans only
• Must have Honorable, Other Than Honorable, Medical or Administration separation to be considered to join 

Salute Honorary Membership:

• Honorary members may be spouses, dependents, faculty, community leaders, and other non-active or non-veteran personnel, and shall be nominated by a SALUTE Chapter, or by the SALUTE staff to the Executive Steering Committee for approval.
• National Honorary membership may be offered for up to seven (7) percent of the total membership of SALUTE as determined by the Executive Steering Committee. Honorary members shall be persons who have made or are willing to make distinctive contributions to the cause of student veterans, the chapter, and the Office of Veteran Success 
• Honorary members must be involved and apply at minimum one year from their graduation date to be considered for approval to become a member of SALUTE.

Salute Professional Membership:

• This membership recognizes college graduates whose academic performance would have qualified them while a student. These members are encouraged to serve as a support to currently matriculating and recently graduated SALUTE members as they transition into the professional world.
• Professional members must be involved and apply at least one year from their graduation date to be considered for approval to become a member of SALUTE.

CLASSIFICATIONS:

Undergraduate students:

Undergraduate students are classified in the following tiers based upon GPA level:

• Alpha Tier GPA: 3.75 - 4.00
• Bravo Tier GPA: 3.50 - 3.74
• Charlie Tier GPA: 3.25 - 3.49
• Delta Tier GPA: 3.00 - 3.24

Graduate students: (master’s and doctoral degrees)

All graduate students (master’s and doctoral degrees) will be classified as follows:

• SALUTE Gold Members

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT WE HAVE TWO CHAPTERS:

SALUTE Veterans National Honors Society (USF National Chapter):

• The SALUTE National Chapter is designed for students who meet all the requirements listed above and have been invited and accepted to be part of the National Chapter. In addition, students are required to make their one-time membership payment to SALUTE National directly after they have been accepted to the Chapter
• Members for the USF SALUTE National Chapter can have all the benefits listed above
• The information session and application process are only for students who meet the criteria listed above and would like to be part of the USF National Chapter

SALUTE Veterans National Honors Society (USF Student organization/club):

• The SALUTE student organization/club is open to all students, regardless of whether or not they meet the above criteria.
• The members for the USF SALUTE student organization/club will benefit from the following:
  • Ability to participate in the meetings and events that are open to all SALUTE students
  • Opportunities to network, as well as receive and give assistance to fellow student veteran members
  • Participate in local SALUTE programs

APPLICATION PROCESS TO BE A MEMBER OF THE USF SALUTE NATIONAL CHAPTER:

Applications are open at the beginning of each semester (Fall and Spring semesters only).

1. You must attend a SALUTE information session before completing the online application. The link for the online application will be provided during the meeting.
2. Verify you meet the eligibility criteria
3. Know which type of membership and classification you are applying for
4. Know that involvement is a must (attend, participate, and volunteer during meetings, ceremonies, initiatives, and events). If you live outside of the Tampa Bay area or overseas, we’ll work with you. The details will be explained during the information session
5. Honorary & Professional members must be involved and submit an application at minimum one year from their graduation date to be considered for approval to become a member of SALUTE.
6. Have the following electronic documents available for submission:

• • Unofficial college transcripts () ()
  • For veterans: DD-214, showing Honorable or Other Than Honorable discharged. Or provide Medical or Administration separation forms to be considered to join
  • For active duty, reserve, and guard: current military orders.
  • A professional photo of yourself, to be used for our events, to include induction and graduation ceremonies (mandatory) 

7. Be aware that payments are made to SALUTE National and the cost is based on the membership. (https://salute-colostate.nbsstore.net/memberships). DO NOT MAKE A PAYMENT UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED TO THE USF SALUTE VETERANS NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY, USF CHAPTER.

All the meetings are conducted virtual via Microsoft Teams. The same link can be used for each meeting. Information sessions and applications are conducted at the beginning of each semester (Fall and Spring semesters only).
