Golding Endowed Program

Beginning in 1990, Roberta Golding, wife of the late Tampa Bay developer, Stuart S. Golding, established an Endowed Chair chair in his memory.

Until August 2003, the emphasis of the Chair was African and African Diaspora Art. Then, through a cooperative arrangement between the donor and the University, the emphasis of the Endowed Chair was changed to Modern and Contemporary Art.

The first step in the new direction of the Chair was an international search for a scholar who would be a dynamic addition to our highly respected faculty and programs. The search was successfully completed with the appointment of Dr. Riccardo Marchi (Ph.D., University of Chicago), who joined the faculty of the school as an Assistant Professor in January 2005.

In addition to funding Dr. Marchi's position, resources from the $2.3 million endowment have provided research assistance, graduate student support, symposia, lectures, workshops, library materials, and similar projects.

With an outstanding Master of Arts in Art History program, a nationally ranked Master of Fine Arts program, an innovative Contemporary Art Museum, and and the internationally acclaimed Graphicstudio, the Stuart S. Golding Endowed Chair in Modern and Contemporary Art is a vital component in one of the strongest and most unique centers of art study and research in the U.S.
