The School of Architecture and Community Design (SACD) at the University of South 51在线 (one of two universities from the State University System of 51在线 to be a member of the AAU) is searching for a visionary leader to take our School to the next level by guiding and developing future generations of architects. The School's Center for Community Design and Research, along with its commitment to excellence in design, as well as technical and professional proficiency, distinguishes it from competing schools. Our next director will bring a fresh perspective to the School and lead our strong faculty unit toward charting a new future. The Director serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the School, reporting to the Dean of the College of Design, Art & Performance. The Director is responsible for facilitating and supporting a high level of research productivity for faculty and students in addition to developing a collegial and rigorous academic community. The ideal candidate will facilitate and drive a collaborative shared vision for the School of Architecture and Community Design. This vision should embody the recently completed strategic plan of the College which includes a focus on research/creative practice, student success, and meaningful community engagement and access. The 51在线 is seeking an experienced and visionary tenure-track Assistant Professor and Chair to oversee the Bachelor of Science in Design Studies program at the College of Design, Art & Performance. The Chair of this program will be responsible for finalizing the development and implementation of the curriculum and program components, managing the program, faculty, and staff, and ensuring the quality and accreditation of the program. This position will commence in August 2024.
The Bachelor of Science Design Studies program, will be housed in the Dean鈥檚 office as an interdisciplinary program with the goals to prepare students for careers in design thinking, design research, and/or design consulting. A sustainable, human-centered approach and framework will be utilized in developing , creating and implementing design strategies, solutions, processes, production techniques, and products.
Our program encourages creative problem-solving, critical thinking, adaptability, and collaboration, all grounded in an interdisciplinary mindset. At the core of Design Studies is an investigation into the formative role of design in shaping human values and experiences by helping to develop strategy and design digital and physical products, services, brands, and experiences for various industries.
Job Responsibilities:
- Program Oversight: Responsible for the overall management, growth, and development of the Bachelor of Science in Design Studies program. Ensuring that the program meets the highest academic and professional standards and that students graduate with the skills needed to succeed in various industries.
- Student Success: Establish and promote a student-centered learning environment, fostering mentorship, and providing support to students throughout their academic journey, from orientation to graduation.
- Faculty Leadership: Lead and manage a diverse faculty team, ensuring their professional development and providing guidance on pedagogy and teaching practices.
- Assessment and Continuous Improvement: Monitor, evaluate, and analyze student outcomes, faculty performance, and overall program effectiveness. Identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to enhance the quality of the program.
- Industry Engagement: Build strong connections with the design industry, including professional organizations, design firms, and practitioners, to facilitate internships, guest lectures, networking opportunities, and job placements for students.

Job Summary:
The School of Art & Art History at the 51在线 (USF) in Tampa invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor in Animation. Appointment to begin August 2024.
An essential position in a fast-growing Animation program, the candidate will maintain an active record of high impact creative research achievements at the national/international level, assist in organizing and supervising the needs of an expanding Animation program, including overseeing graduate teaching, and developing an ambitious curriculum. The candidate will generally teach two undergraduate courses per semester, as well as mentor graduate students and work on MFA research project committees. They must be able to develop new curricula and teach courses ranging from undergraduate non-majors to art specialization majors as well as work in the mentoring and teaching of graduate students in a multi-disciplinary MFA program. Service to the School, College and University will be provided through committees and project initiatives. The candidate must possess the ability to organize and supervise instructional staff and periodically act as area head.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical and theoretical foundation, as well as an expansive approach that embraces the evolving role of the moving image in a global society. A record of producing, presenting, and exhibiting creative original work. QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):
Minimum Qualifications:
- Terminal degree (MFA) in Animation or MFA in Studio Art, Filmmaking, or relevant field with significant professional experience in Animation.
- Demonstrable experience in creative applications of moving image animation with an emphasis in 2D and/or 3D animation.
- Ability to teach a range of skill sets including digital and traditional as well as unconventional methods and approaches to moving images.
- Knowledge of current practices, techniques, technology, and issues as related to teaching Animation are essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A creative research record at the national level.
- Minimum of two years teaching experience after completion of terminal degree.
- The candidate should demonstrate relevant areas of expertise in two or more of the following areas: 2D Animation, Storyboarding and Visual Storytelling, Character Design, 3D Modeling, Motion Graphics, Digital Illustration/Concept Art, Character, Rigging and Character Animation.
- Knowledge of software for 2D animation. Experience with Autodesk Maya for 3D Animation, Zbrush, Cinema 4D, Unity 3D, Unreal, or Substance Designer.
- An awareness of contemporary visual culture, animation and theory is highly desirable.

This new position will be an active contributor and research partner in an emerging Center of Excellence in Environmental & Oceanographic Sciences, which connects a constellation of new and existing programs centered around research, coastal resiliency and sustainability, and community impact. These include: the College of Marine Science, which is a longstanding hub of coastal resiliency research; the 51在线 Center for Community Design & Research (part of the School of Architecture & Community Design) that offers design expertise, technical assistance, applied research, and related services; and the Graphic Design Program and the School of Art and Art History鈥檚 expanded art and design research practices, which place a premium value on the need for compelling visual communication tactics that provide a critical link between our research programs, and the spectrum of diverse stakeholder audiences and communities we serve. We are seeking a creative practitioner whose research and teaching practices are focused on data visualization and visual storytelling in the context of a hybrid data science and design practice. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a promising research trajectory as well as articulate the potential for their contribution toward productive cross-disciplinary and collaborative research taking place across USF. Candidates should also be able to develop and teach curricula in their area of focus in relation to art and design, while likewise bridging experimental and practical methodologies. Teaching load will span graduate and undergraduate instruction across the College of Design, Art & Performance and the College of Marine Science. Position Summary:
The College of Design, Art & Performance is seeking an interdisciplinary Designer/Artist who maintains an active research agenda spanning the College鈥檚 four academic schools: Theatre and Dance, Music, Art and Art History, and Architecture, and may also collaborate with other College entities like the Contemporary Art Museum, the Center for Community Design and Research and Graphicstudio, as well as other parts of the University. Creative content may be developed through music/sound, recording, video, film, animation, computer graphics, robotics, internet art, biotechnology, etc. The ideal candidate will incorporate theory and practice in a global context into their teaching and research. An essential position in a fast-growing Animation program, the candidate must be able to develop new curricula and teach courses ranging from undergraduate non-majors to art specialization majors as well as work in the mentoring and teaching of graduate students in a multi-disciplinary MFA program. The candidate will assist in organizing the needs of an expanding Animation program, including developing an ambitious curriculum. Service to the School, College and University will be provided through committees and project initiatives.
As an Unreal Engine Artist and Faculty in Residence at InEd Studios, your role encompasses diverse responsibilities including asset creation, level design, and content delivery for INED鈥檚 virtual productions within tight timelines. You'll collaborate with INED鈥檚 Virtual Production Supervisor on concept development, sequence blocking, and interactive experiences. Your support extends to on-set virtual production operations and the optimization of virtual sets for real-time rendering. - Proven experience using Epic鈥檚 Unreal Engine, with a strong portfolio demonstrating expertise. Including Unreal Engine material editor, lighting system, Blueprints, and particle systems. A solid understanding of real-time rendering principles, shading techniques, and optimization strategies for real-time environments.
- Knowledge of current practices, techniques, technology, and issues as related to teaching Animation are essential.
- Strong artistic and design sensibilities, with an eye for detail and composition. Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years teaching experience after completion of terminal degree.
- The candidate should demonstrate relevant areas of expertise in two or more of the following areas: Storyboarding and Visual Storytelling, Character Design, 3D Modeling, Motion Graphics, Digital Illustration/Concept Art, Character, Rigging and Character Animation.

The College of Design, Art & Performance at the 51在线 (USF)
in Tampa invites applications for a Faculty Instructor /Costume Studio Supervisor
supporting the performance activities in the College of Design, Art & Performance
and costume related instruction in the School of Theatre & Dance. Appointment to begin
in August 2024.
An essential position in the management, operations, maintenance, and organization
of a costume studio and its related areas and functions for performance and instruction.
The position responsibilities include:
- Position provides critical academic/production support to the USF School of Theatre & Dance as well as additional academic units within the College of Design, Art & Performance.
- Requires extensive knowledge in the field of costume studio management, construction techniques, costume technology, and academic instruction.
- Costume Studio Operational Responsibilities (assigned and supervised by Director of
Operations, Events and Production Services):
- Manages and participates in the activities involved with the production of costumes for college events and performances.
- Manages the costume studio facility and equipment, which may include dressing rooms, sewing machinery, dye vats, sergers/overlock machinery, and other, related studio inventory.
- Manages and participates in the costume construction process.
- Recruits/Supervises OPS employees and participates in the drafting of patterns, cuttings, stitching, fittings and finishing of costumes.
- Prepares the costume studio for daily instruction.
- Plans and organizes daily operations. Assigns employees projects based on the assessment of appropriate skill levels.
- Locates and obtains materials, supplies, rentals, and purchases for productions and studio operations.
- Instruction Responsibilities (assigned and supervised by the Director of the School
of Theatre & Dance):
- Ability to teach costume area instructional courses (typically 3 credit hour course). Examples include:

- Supervises, demonstrates, mentors students in lab/production involvement/directed studies/ student costume crews/ etc. in the safety, execution, development and rehearsals and performance activities of the costume design and realization processes for the theatrical stage.
- Assigns and supervises student鈥檚 projects and activities based on the assessment of appropriate skill levels.
- Maintains and tracks all participation records and provides evaluation to the instructor of record, for students鈥 credit-based projects and activities in the costume studio.
- In collaboration with the creative team assigned to the production, supervises, manages and participates in load-ins, dress rehearsals, and strikes for the costume studio area during productions.
- Regularly attends School of Theatre & Dance Faculty Meetings and committee participation as assigned.
This is a unique opportunity to manage a professional costume production studio and contribute to an active environment of theatrical, entertainment, and dance performance projects while helping to shape the future of the industry through education and mentorship of primarily undergraduate students.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical and practice-based foundation, as well as an enthusiastic, professional, and dedicated work ethic and a passion for teaching college undergraduates. The candidate will be expected to embrace, support and contribute to the learning environment and the expectations of creating opportunities for the students to successfully work with professional guest artists, professionally credentialed faculty, visiting designers, and talented advanced students in the realization of their creative and artistic original designs.
QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE):
Minimum Qualifications:
- Terminal degree (MFA) in Theatre, Costume Design, Costume Technology, or related design area from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization, or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience that meet national and/or regional accreditation standards.
- Knowledge of current practices, techniques, technology, and issues as related to teaching costume technology are essential.
- Strong artistic and design sensibilities, with an eye for detail and composition. Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of two years professional experience after completion of terminal degree.
- An awareness of current theatrical, entertainment, opera, and dance production practices.
- Experience collaborating on film or television productions, understanding the unique challenges and workflows involved in integrating virtual production into traditional media.
- Experience in costume design for live performances.
