Dr. Elizabeth Hordge-Freeman is an Associate Professor of Sociology at USF. In the summer of 2013, she organized her first study abroad trip with students to Bahia, Brazil. 鈥淲hat is truly the most gratifying about the USF in Brazil program is the impact that it has had on students in the U.S. and Brazil," Dr. Hordge-Freeman recalled. "USF students who have participated in the program have gone on to participate in the Peace Corps, the U.S. Foreign Service program, defended thesis projects on research related to Brazil, been accepted into Ph.D. programs, joined the military, and become more active in the local Tampa community.鈥
After completing her program Brazil, Dr. Hordge-Freeman was awarded a Fulbright in partnership with the Instituto Cultural Steve Biko and the Federal University of Bahia to collect research on modern slavery in Brazil. Additionally, Dr. Horge-Freeman was selected as one of eight national finalists for the Lynton Award for the Scholarship of Engagement for Early Career Faculty, Center for Engaged Democracy.
