The Office of Undergraduate Studies (UGS) hosts several Summer Learning Programs for incoming freshman to the 51在线 (USF). As with any life transition, the first time living away from home, possibly in a new city, and attending school at a higher education institution can be challenging. Summer programming provides an environment where students can ease into their new life and academic experience away from their family, friends, and their community.

Students take introductory courses to help them become familiar with courses that are more rigorous and have different expectations from high school, get a head start on foundational courses, and improve their study and time management skills.

Navigating a new school campus can be overwhelming. With fewer students on campus, it can be easier to get familiar with campus. The summer programming offers small tours of campus, special orientation sessions, and students learn about resources and services available to them.

The UGS summer programs offer services and support to focused areas of student populations. Students begin their college experience with other students who have shared interests or backgrounds. They develop a strong connection with this first group of friends they make at college.

A junior in the Student Support Services (SSS) program spoke highly of his SSS freshman summer semester,

鈥淭he SSS program allowed me to transition into adulthood with the
help of mentors and other goal-oriented individuals. I gained valuable information through workshops, collaborative activities, and classes
taken with my fellow SSS peers. It made the experience less intimidating
and more relatable to me as someone who was unaware of college life.

There are four programs offered by Undergraduate Studies departments. Student Support Services is a federally funded program supporting first generation and low-income students.  The Summer ACE program serves students who are coming from out-of-state to USF will learn about their new 51在线 community. New Bulls Scholars are chosen from five local high schools to participate in summer programming and will have the support of being in courses with one another as well as other activities. The IGNITE Summer Bridge Program serves incoming freshman student-athletes.

In addition to summer programs for new freshman UGS offers summer programs to younger students. We have summer programs offered to junior high and high school students through the state funded College Reach-Out Program and the federally funded Upward Bound program offered to high school students. These programs include tutoring, courses, college preparation, college tours, and other activities to for a successful middle and high school educational experience and post-secondary education.
