Leadership St. Pete庐 Class of 2022 to unveil major capital improvements at
Clam Bayou Marine Education Center

WHEN: Tuesday, June 14th, 10 am

WHERE: Clam Bayou Marine Education Center,

WHAT: The Leadership St. Pete庐 Class of 2022 selected the Clam Bayou Marine Education Center as their class project. The Center is a community outreach and educational facility for programs that inspire youth to become active environmental and ocean stewards. It focuses on fostering pathways toward careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) -- an especially critical mission for underserved communities that traditionally lack access to such programming.

In four months, the class was able to raise enough cash and in-kind donations to install a shade structure, artificial turf, ten picnic tables with umbrellas, three benches, two shelled paths, and a wash station. In addition, the class renewed the landscape with native plants. Further, the class provided the Center with a new logo to assist with establishing a brand. To hear about the final class project accomplishments and total funds raised, please consider attending this event.

The aim of the project, dubbed 鈥淲aves of Inspiration,鈥 is to provide the underserved children who participate in the Center鈥檚 marine and environmental activities a cool, welcoming, and lovely environment to enhance their learning and appreciation for the space. A shaded seating area will make lunch and recreational activities more enjoyable.

The facility is operated by the USF College of Marine Science in partnership with the City of St. Petersburg. The core project mission is to enhance the outdoor spaces around the Clam Bayou Marine Education Center as a way to foster improved comfort, enjoyment, and by extension, enhanced learning.

WHO: Leadership St. Pete庐 representatives St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Chris Steinocher, 51在线 College of Marine Science Dean Tom Frazer, St Pete. City Council Member Lisa Wheeler-Bowman, Center Director Dr. Teresa Greely, Outreach Coordinator Makenzie Kerr, project donors, and other St. Petersburg city and business leaders will participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

MEDIA AVAILABILITY: Representatives of Leadership St. Pete庐 and USF College of Marine Science will be available immediately after the ceremony to give one-on-one interviews
