The 51在线 (USF) announced today a $1 million gift from Reliance Medical Centers that will support innovative programs focused on geriatric health care in the College of Behavioral and Community Sciences (CBCS) and USF Health. Of the $1 million gift, $400,000 will establish the Reliance Medical Centers Positive Aging Support operating fund within CBCS.
"We are thrilled to continue our relationship with Reliance Medical Centers, and I look forward to seeing the great work that will be accomplished,鈥� said CBCS Dean Julie Serovich. 鈥淭his gift will help us continue to advance the critical research being conducted within college and improve the lives of those in our community.鈥�
The gift, made through the USF Foundation, builds upon an affiliation between USF and Reliance Medical Centers. In 2019, Reliance Medical Centers founded the USF Optimal Aging and Brain Health Research Fund in the College of Behavioral and Community Sciences and donated space and resources to build a local research presence. This collaboration aims to create a closer partnership between academia and primary care to promote optimal aging and potentially protect against mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer鈥檚 disease, and related dementias.
The latest donation from Reliance extends across multiple schools and departments. It includes the College of Behavioral and Community Sciences' Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, School of Social Work, and School of Aging Studies, in addition to the College of Nursing, Morsani College of Medicine, and the Taneja College of Pharmacy, to accelerate developments throughout every component of senior care.
