BIO

Tammy D. Allen, Ph.D. is a Distinguished University Professor at the University of South 51在线. She also serves as the Director of the Occupational Health Psychology training concentration affiliated with the NIOSH-funded . She is past Area Director for the industrial-organizational psychology program.

For over two decades her research has helped advance and shape scholarship on the connections between work and family, on organizational practices such as flexible work arrangements, and the science and practice of mentoring relationships. She examines individual, organizational, and societal factors that can influence work-family conflict/balance, employee health and wellbeing, and career development across the lifespan. Her current NSF funded work includes examination of how individuals manage their work and nonwork roles under remote/hybrid work arrangements. Dr. Allen works closely with doctoral students and with an international community of scholars and is driven by a desire to produce actionable knowledge as to how individuals can achieve career success and wellbeing across both their work and nonwork roles.

Her research has generated over 200 peer-reviewed journal articles, books, and book chapters, has been cited over 55,000 times, has received multiple awards, and has been featured by a variety of media outlets. She has shared her research and teachings as a visiting scholar and guest speaker at universities and organizations across the world.

Dr. Allen served as President of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) (2013-2014) and as President of the Society for Occupational Health Psychology (2018-2019). She is an elected Fellow of the Academy of Management, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Association for Psychological Science, American Psychological Association (APA), and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology. She has served in on the APA Board of Scientific Affairs (2021-2023) and on the Council of Representatives (2019-2024). She is currently Member-at-Large for the Work-Family Researchers Network.

She is the 2022 recipient of the Ellen Galinsky Regenerative Researcher Award from the Work Family Researchers Network (2022) and the 2021 recipient of the Herbert Heneman Jr. Award for Career Achievement from the Human Resources Division of the Academy of Management. In 2019 she was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Neuch芒tel, Switzerland. She is also the recipient of the Outstanding Graduate Faculty Mentor Award from the 51在线; among other honors. She holds a B.A. from California State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee.
